youth, missions, and inspiration

Posted in thought, art by nakedpastor on the September 17th, 2006

Hannah Grant, one of the young people from our church (Rothesay Vineyard) is back to visit us for a little while. She spoke at our church this morning and did an incredible job. She’s been working with Youth With A Mission for years now, and has risen to the level of instructor. She as been to Nepal on missions trips, as well as China and southeast Asia. She and her fiance Nick, after they are married in March, will begin to develop a training center in Indonesia next year. She plans to teach English as a second language and he will provide water-purification services while they live in that region. I just want to say that she, and what she had to say, was an incredible inspiration to our congregation today. It was a pivotal moment, the ramifications of which we’ll see and enjoy for a long time to come. Thanks Hannah!

I thoroughly enjoyed Hannah’s “speech” yesterday. It’s really great to hear about her experiences and to walk a little while in her shoes. I thought that her story is important for teens that are struggling in high school. What a great message: there’s life after high school and the way things are now, might not be the way things will be in the near future.

Besides this, I was remembering the significant changes that were made in my life when I was a “YWAMMER.”

Yes, I felt she communicated very well the perseverance of God in suffering.

Oh how I needed to be reminded of the tender places that God had birthed while I was in YWAM.For those of us who are firmly ensconced in home life, sometimes the tenderness feels painful and raw. Like passion denied. There is hope tho. Who better to encourage, support and compell to go, than those who have been and know the impact that is possible. Short term missions is life changing, adventures that will beat any computer/ video game to crap! !!!! We need to send send send, and go………( yes,I still want to go!)

“Marvin K. Mooney will you please go now.
    I don’t care when.
    I don’t care how.
    Just go!”

A favourite quote from famous missions motivator, Dr. Seuss.

The message Hannah gave was phenomenal, I was so thankful to be sitting there listening to such wisdom. We get bogged down by so many stupid things in life, but what she had to say sure cleared away the clutter. It was beautiful!!
