breakfast byte: God’s own idea

Watercolor, 5″x7″, available in my eBay store (button to left).
“How odd that it is apparently not God’s purpose to minister day by day to the world by direct revelation. Rather, the surprising fact is that God has chosen to minister to humanity through a scandalously visible community, the church, and to minister to the church through human agency, by calling ordinary, vulnerable, pride-prone persons into the ministry of word and sacrament. However vulnerable it may be to wretched distortions and abuses, curiously enough it seems to be God’s own idea” (Thomas Oden).

Everything God does is through relationship.
Bullshit. This is just fitting the theory to the facts, nothing more. There is no evidence of the existence of God, so theologists make up theories of “mystery” and “relationship” as extensions of their own imagination to justify their need for something to believe in.
Fred: I agree, except for when he doesn’t.
Henry: I disagree. I think there’s lots of evidence for God if you believe in God. I would agree that there’s no proof at our disposal.
i think you don’t get proof until you believe, or dare Him that you might believe IF He gives you proof. go a head dare Him to prove Him self to you, then report on what you find.
Let me put it this way–if you take the Christian worldview at face value, based on the Bible, you will see that, according to the Christian view of who God is and how he operates, he does everything through relationship (as opposed to, say, Allah). Is that better, Henry?
(Otherwise every comment will lead to a debate on whether or not God exists…)
First of all, I love the watercolor. The combination of areas of color/black and white is striking.
Some of you posting might find some interesting thoughts at www.doesgodexist.com . Undoubtedly, you won’t agree with everything there, but this former science teacher has loads of material and food for thought. He believes science and Christianity work together quite well.
