Just Because We Look Cool Doesn’t Mean We Are

The Catholic Church flip-flopped on its statement concerning gays.

Brian Houston of Hillsong Church waffled on his statement concerning gays.

There’s a lot of talk about being relevant. There’s lots of talk about looking cool.

Just because we look cool it doesn’t mean we are.

Just because we talk about being relevant it doesn’t mean we are.

Just because we “have a lot of gays” it doesn’t mean they’re free from discrimination.

There is a line that separates discrimination from affirmation. We can talk and progress while on the discrimination side until the cows come home. We can nudge up as close as possible to that line, but we will still be on the side of injustice.

Justice doesn’t begin until that line is crossed.

Period.

With the recent Mark Driscoll news…. I remember a friend who always described Mark as ” just a fundie in a Ramones T-shirt”….. Meaning he was trying to look cool to the culture while still be Pharaisee on the inside…..

  3. According to CatholicNewsAgency.com, there was a problem in translation of the original report from the Synod on the Family; the phrase, “accepting and valuing their sexual orientation;” should have been translated, “accepting and evaluating [or weighing, considering] their sexual orientation.” So it may have not been a flip flop per se, but it represents a microcosm of the challenge facing church leaders. Most are searching for that “third way” response.

As a former Catholic that loves Pope Francis, this is very disappointing to here. Very good cartoon, David!
