I get a lot of kick back when I post cartoons like this that expose the hypocrisy of men who claim that sexism doesn’t exist. It’s always men too. Curious!

Like a white person who claims racism doesn’t exist in America.

I know sexism exists because I detect it in my own heart. I know what privilege means because I have it.

Recently I was talking with a friend of mine who is a lesbian, and she said that sometimes she can see it in what I write… something that is unsettling to her about my white male privilege addressing these issues. She’s glad I’m an advocate, but there’s no way I can understand discrimination the way she does. She’s right!

I’m not a woman either. So, I recognize that I can only go so far in my understanding. My advocacy is limited. Women know far better than men the kind of daily discrimination that is not only occasionally expressed, but is deeply embedded in our cultural milieu in a way that infects all our transactions.

M. L. King Jr. raised our awareness of racism and inaugurated change for his people.

Gandhi helped raised our awareness of colonialism and inaugurated change for his people.

Nelson Mandela raised our awareness of apartheid and inaugurated change for his people.

It is women who raise our awareness of sexism and inaugurate change for women.

And this is deeply disturbing for sexists.

I think you understand something and fully empathize with it even if you’re never subjected to it.

There is no doubt whatsoever that sexism exists Worldwide as does all the other ism’s that give cause for redress.
Are women “equal” to men? it depends on the sense in which it’s being asked I suppose. I can state emphatically that I don’t want my wife to exhibit male characteristics though.

    Hi Mike!
Can you explain what male characteristics are, why you don’t want your wife displaying them, and what that has to do with anybody being equal to one another?
    Thank you!

Thank you Wanderer for asking that question. I hesitated to comment because to me the comment seems to be somewhat sexist because masculinity and femininity are determined by culture. Here is a great link that explains these different concepts quite clearly and better than I can. Great cartoon David.
