I remember posting on one Christian blog about the persecution my LGBT friends, and the persecution that I personally, had experienced.

The blog administrator responded, “Caryn, I give you a C for drama.” That was it. Dismissed. Not considered worthy of a thoughtful response. No compassion. No empathy. No concern. A very clear decision to ‘walk on the other side’, and avoid someone that was wounded. No love from that Christian.

For a day, I was in shock. I knew that this particular blog administrator had experienced exclusion and counter-attack when he posted against the incredible salaries received by some elite Calvary Chapel pastors.

Then, I had to laugh at myself. After all, the blog administrator had not experienced being LGBT, even for a day. And, he could not ‘transfer’ the persecution he had experienced for just a few years, to the persecution the LGBT community had experienced in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000’s.

He could not make the ‘transfer’.

I have observed that the ability to transfer an experience/insight/understanding from one set of self-experienced circumstances to another people-group’s similar circumstances is the mark of a mature Christian. The blog administrator is still growing towards maturity… I simply apologized to the group for my outburst, and left them alone to continue walking on the other side.

With this Supreme Court decision, I feel like a huge burden is off the shoulders of Bonnie (my spouse) and I. Our almost 40 years of marriage is no longer threatened by any State in the US. [We married as ‘man and woman’ in 1975, and in some states, I am considered a woman as a transsexual, and therefore, our marriage is considered ‘apparent same-sex’ in those states, and without rights.]

Now, we are free to live anywhere in the US, without fear of state-controlled marriage benefits being automatically denied.

All that is left is ENDA, so that a person cannot be terminated from the job for simply being, or identifying in, or appearing to be, LGBT.

Oh… and for those that say ‘they have love’ to grow into maturity.

It indeed was a wonderful day!

    Blessings! Caryn

I beg to differ. It’s the mark of a MATURE person.
