Church Leaders and Victims

"Church Victims Dumpster" cartoon by David Hayward

(*** I wrote this explicit poem and realized by the end of it that I wasn’t just writing about a man’s assault of a girl, but about how the church often treats its victims. I’m also confident that some people will be more offended by this cartoon and these words than by the actual act. Share if you dare.)

How’s My Cry Heard?

your church preached i’m victor
not your victim with scars
i thought i’d be safe
on that road in your car

you made me suck you
while you sucked out my life
then threw me aside
as you rose to the heights

i just have my voice
that will help me to stand
but how’s my cry heard
over the praise of your fans?

(Join with other people who “get” this. They are an awesome bunch and will warmly welcome you! The Lasting Supper.)

  1. Church leaders and any other kind of leaders that use their position to act out their sexual urges on those in a more junior or vulnerable position instead of exercising self control. And also the hypocrites in Hollywood speaking out while having been supportive towards those how have been abusers with both the hypocrites and former abusers receiving applause. It’s not brave to speak about something when you know almost certainly you will receive praise for it!

Bravery comes when speaking out comes with a risk to your reputation, your livelihood, rejection from peers and even to your life.

The ability to connect with an audience and manipulate a crowd seeming to take greater precedent than healing, forgiveness and justice.

All that happens is that a culture of fear is the outcome. With women being afraid of men, being told the way to deal with that is to complain and yell. And men being afraid to approach women, with women ending up being alone or dissatisfied in their relationships with men.

The healthy don’t need a physician, but the sick do.
