Acrylic Painting and a Brooding Peace
This is a painting, acrylic on canvas (10"x30"; 25 cm x 75 cm), that I painted last week. It is inspired by the geography right in front of my house on the Kennebecasis River. Early last week we had a snow storm, and this is basically what it looked like. It describes my mood... brooding but peaceful. There's lots on my mind, and I'm reading some good material on and by Wendell Berry. I've always appreciated what he has to say. To be honest, I'm feeling rather tranquil. In the midst of all the pressure of this world and my community, I'm feeling calm. However, I do feel the weight of temptation to succumb to the vision-casting, goal-setting and energy-boosting climate I find myself in. Even in my community, there is always the seduction to hype things up. It is difficult to be content with the small things, that is, contentment, love, relationships, serving, helping, peace. These are hard work that our zeal can distract us from. You can see a larger version of my painting here. And, if you want to purchase it, you can do so here.
