This is Brenda. She's a part of our community. She's an artist. She's a friend. She comes to the church building at least one day a week to clean things up. Today she came in just to decorate the toddlers' room with colorful kites. I was so impressed with the colors that I just had to shoot a photograph of it. I like how she surrounds herself with brilliance... not only in color, but also with other things. She throws quite a party too! Her home looks like it's come right out of a designer magazine. Homemade breads and cheese of all kinds, fresh fruit. Her own original paintings. Fine music. Choice wines. She is always encouraging. She is always so positive about our community. She's played a role in our health. I don't know how she does it. Ten years ago she lost her boyfriend, who drowned in a solo sailing accident out on the ocean. She's a single mom. Her son is a teenager, so her hands are full. Especially since he was diagnosed with Type 1 juvenile diabetes a couple of years ago. I hoped that the photograph would capture some of the sorrow she carries courageously, as well as the color that she spreads throughout this community.
