I remember when I was a teenager being so on fire anticipating the return of Jesus.
Seriously, I expected it at any moment.
Years passed.
Then, I started analyzing the explanations... the biggest one being that"soon" doesn't really mean "soon", because for God a day is 1,000 years and 1,000 years a day.
Then, I heard the threats: if you doubt then you are going to be left behind.
I put 2 and 2 together and concluded it was a brilliant strategy to scare me into compliance.
It worked. For years, it worked.
Because the idea has worked for millennia.
