"Evolving Image of God" cartoon by nakedpastor David Hayward

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13... a chapter that is read at so many weddings...
"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, darkly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known."
One of the childish things is our image of God. Any and every image. Because when we grow up we realize that the word is not the thing, and neither is the thought.
What is beyond the words? What is beyond the thought?
A friend who used to be a believer and then became an atheist said to me once,
"Either God is everywhere or God is nowhere."
To me, now, these are the same thing.
You see, in the cartoon, in the last frame one might leap to the conclusion that there is no God, while another might assume that he has grown too large for the frame to contain.
Again, to me, these are the same thing.
There is a God. There is no God. I claim these are two sides of the same coin.
What is real is real. Reality is reality. What is true is true. Truth is truth. The only thing that seems to separate us, distinguish us, divide us, is words and thoughts.
What is real is beyond both.
