Renée Zellweger, and why do women have to explain themselves?

As in she apparently looks like a "completely different person". I don't care. I haven't seen her in so many years I would kind of expect some kind of change. I recognized her though. What fascinates me is the pressure on women to change. Then the pressure on them when they do. Then the pressure on them to explain themselves. So Zellweger, although she didn't have to, graciously provided an explanation. Here's what Zellweger said:

“I did work that allows for being still, making a home, loving someone, learning new things, growing as a creative person and finally growing into myself... Perhaps I look different. Who doesn't as they get older?! Ha. But I am different. I'm happy.”

But apparently this is not enough. It's almost like we won't believe her own testimony about herself. We prefer ours. We want to know about her eye-lids, not her courage, resolve, or personal transformation.
