Sophias, cartoons, paintings: SHOP NOW! > The famous Nazi war criminal Josef Mengele said, "“The more we do to you, the less you seem to believe we are doing it.” This is true for spiritual abuse. I believe it is rampant. I also believe that disbelief in it is rampant. These are related. I'm going on vacation for a week. I'm not taking my computer. I need the rest. We haven't had a real vacation since Lisa started nursing school over seven years ago, so we're taking a much needed break. In all my years of blogging, I've never taken a day off that I can remember. This is new. There'll be no new posts for a week. But I'm okay with that. I'll be back in full swing next week. One of the things I plan on doing is re-energizing myself for the next part of my journey. I am more and more certain that the real problem in the church today is the abuse of power and its privileges. I used to think that when I cartooned or wrote about spiritual abuse that I was touching a nerve. Now I think it is the nerve. The problem at the core of our communities is not theology, it is power. I claim that the principalities and powers Paul spoke of have full control over our communities. They feed off our ignorance of them. Our disbelief and naïveté empower them. I feel that my time away is going to help me focus on this, get some clarity on it, and figure out a way to address it more directly when I get back. Join our online community The Lasting Supper. We'll believe you.
