This cartoon is going to upset people. Because to them the bible is God.

Watch this: 

If the bible is the word of God and the word was God and the word is Jesus and Jesus is God then the bible is God. 

Let me explain something to my opposers. 

No one loved the bible more than I. I don’t brag when I share this about me. These are just facts.

I started studying the bible in my teens. I still own that bible lined with colored pencils, written notes all over, covered with tear stains of devotion. I then went to bible college and studied Greek and Hebrew. Then to seminary for a Masters in New Testament studies. More years of Koiné Greek (New Testament Greek), more Hebrew, plus Aramaic. I took New Testament Greek speed-reading. After ordination I prepared sermons from the original languages and preached from them. I lived this way for decades.

So when people scorn me with, “You need to read your bible”, they better not dare me to a bible-knowledge challenge.

Even when I educate them they respond with, “Well you’re not reading it right” and call me a Pharisee... someone who knows the scriptures but not God (anti-semitism much?). 

When I realized the bible is a collection of the writings of men attempting to articulate a mystery, like a sign, like a finger pointing, now I appreciate the bible for what it is.

When we do that, we can agree that the bible is actually an incredible thing.

But it is not God or Jesus.

That’s just their way of trying to control the narrative, your beliefs, and your life.
