I'm not sure whether this is true or not, but it could be.

Kissing the feet meant you were barely worthy to serve.

Kissing the neck meant you were allowed to serve.

Kissing the ring meant you recognized their authority and were privileged to serve.

Kissing the ass meant you would do anything they said.

We're seeing a lot of the last one.
