The LGBT Community and Kintsugi

"LGBT and Kintsugi" cartoon by nakedpastor David Hayward Like this cartoon? Buy the ORIGINAL or the PRINT! Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. The philosophy behind it is that breakage and repair is an essential, important, and valued part of the object's history, rather than something that is to be ashamed of, concealed, or disguised. So many hearts have been broken over the violence released on the LGBT community in Orlando. It is misleading to view the LGBT community as a monolithic, homogenous group. However, I'm finding it significant that it is the LGBT community that has something to teach the world about loving others unconditionally. Specifically, I'm very moved by how the LGBT community is bringing diverse people together and healing hearts following this crisis. So I drew this broken heart repairedwith the LGBT colors.
