Some will say Paul didn't write this.
Others will say if he did he didn't have a wife.
Others will say whoever wrote it wasn't inspired by God but his by personal view of women.
Others will say whoever wrote it was a part of the New Testament's push towards a more liberated view of women and was ahead of its time even though it was still stuck in a patriarchal worldview.
Others will dismiss it all as hopelessly sexist.
Some might find this funny.
In any case, this verse, and a couple of others, have been used to silence women to the detriment of everyone, including the church.
It's about writing and using scripture to fulfill our own personal agendas.
