Sometimes I had to just surrender. I don’t mean to the enemy. I mean to what is.
Surrender to what is. Not like a victim. But like a participant. Like a lover.

Like floating.
Floating is very active. It is not passive at all. It requires poise, patience, some knowledge and skill, and, finally, trust.

Trust.
I think people fall into two categories: one is they generally feel the world is against them, and the other feels the world is for them. I’m not sure of this. Someone might be slightly more than the other. But I suspect we all fall into one camp or the other.

I’ve been in both. Living in captivity eroded my trust. I let it.

Then, at some point in my captivity, I knew I had to rekindle trust. I actually remember the day I realized that I was waiting to be rescued, when all I had to do was surrender to what is, to trust what is, and be transformed.
My chains were broken before I broke them.

Trust:

I myself had uprooted it.
So I myself had to replant it.
It wasn’t a pessimistic “You made your bed. Now sleep in it.”
It was an optimistic, “Here’s freedom’s door. Now walk through it.”

It wasn’t done for me. I had to do it for myself. But the call to do it empowered me. When a player wins, the coach is praised as well. Likewise, the call, like a coach, empowered me to surrender and trust that I was cared for. I can’t explain it. It is a sense that I still carry.

It took a lot of work.
But I have surrendered.

And I discovered I am cared for.
