  1. There are a few layered meanings to this cartoon, well done, David!

First is the self-centered person asking the question. The poignancy for me is the person seeing Jesus as a Santa Clause figure. His prayers are full of self-centered wishes; as trivial as “help me find a parking space, I need this job.” The expectation is Jesus is seen as my personal genie.

But the larger idea focuses on atonement theory. This gets at the center of evangelicalism, why we need to be “saved” in their world; “Jesus died on the cross for my sins.” Evangelical Christianity’s insistence on personal salvation is why I am no longer a “Christian” in the common understanding. I do try to follow Jesus’ teachings, as I see them as the basics to living a life as it was designed to lived.

    Another gem, David.

  2. I have the original on my mantelpiece 🙂

What I like about it is the reminder in so much of a “me” society, that not everything is about me and helps me get things in perspective.

I’m not sure where the objection to salvation has come from in the comment above having been saved, being saved and will be saved is all part and parcel of it. All that is, is becoming aware of what you already are in your trues sense – created in the image of God and good. Though of course no one is without evil and hence the need for salvation.

The healthy don’t need a doctor – only the sick do.
