Trapped by Others’ Expectations?

I have felt trapped many times in my life.

Almost every time, I realized I wasn’t really trapped at all.

In fact, I was allowing the expectations of others to make me FEEL trapped.

There’s a big difference between actually trapped and feeling trapped.

The choice becomes clear: be and act free OR fulfill the expectations of others.

That’s usually the choice.

I know it’s not easy because few of us like disappointing people.

But, seriously, that’s the choice: disappointing others OR yourself.

Always choose freedom.

  1. It was a mantra, “What would other people think?!,” instilled in me by my mother.
Frankly, I like who I’ve become and no longer care whether others like me or not.
It has taken most of life’s journey to see that as their problem, not mine. Free at last!

  2. I totally see this in how I don’t share my evolving spiritual life. I’m so afraid of the disappointments and what will come from those whom I love and repspect and yet, don’t believe the same thing they do anymore. On one hand, I feel such freedom in my belief and on the other hand, I can see the cage around me in my fear. This was a great illustration that I needed to see!
