Why the church uses the good news as a good way to control people

I know one of the biggest reasons why churches control people. It’s because if you can’t control the parts, you can’t control the whole.

That is, if you can’t keep people in line, the security of the establishment is constantly compromised.

In order to secure the future of the church, you have to secure the people.

It’s business.

  1. When the church becomes more concerned about its own institutional survival, rather than the liberation and healing of people, this is certainly true.

  2. I went to church yesterday for the first of the annual stewardship sermons. Most of the first 20 minutes were what we have all heard a million times. However, he closed with something like this: “In the end I don’t care WHERE you choose to give you money. If not this church, then find a charity you like. A homeless shelter, a school, the Rotary club. Whatever. Just do it.”

The fact is, he actually meant this. He is all about moving the people along spiritually, and that may or may not mean direct support of the organization that pays his salary. I found this profoundly encouraging.

  3. lots of people there because they want to be told/controlled what to do. The other part who like to tell and control have a good place to be busy too. God is almighty, turning our shortcomings for his glory.
