Hey, I'm David.

I’m a pastor turned artist painting, drawing, and thinking about what it takes to be free to be you. If you’re interested in deconstruction, spiritual journeying, freedom of thought, or looking for your authentic self, you’re welcome to join me while I search too.

In case you’re wondering, I’m not actually naked. The idea behind my name, NakedPastor, is to seek to tell the naked truth - no matter how vulnerable it feels. I used to be a pastor but I’ve been creating art and working towards freedom with this community for over 10 years now.

The best way to get to know me is through my art. Here's a quick rundown.

CARTOONS

My cartoons are what I’m most known for. I love that they’re powerful and effective. They speak louder than words and go straight to the heart. There's no time to scramble for an argument. It's too late. You can't unsee them.

Through cartoons, I challenge problematic norms in religious spaces and life in general. Basically, they’re more than just cartoons. They inspire, provoke, and start difficult conversations. They don’t just sit on your walls; one frame at a time, I hope they’re making a difference.

DRAWINGS & WATERCOLORS

Just like my cartoons, my watercolor paintings are an expression of my passion for personal freedom... mine and yours! My paintings depict what freedom looks and feels like to me.

My surroundings in Canada have helped me learn mindfulness and inner peace. I want these artworks to help you find these things too on your journey towards personal freedom.

THEPASTOR COMMUNITY

NakedPastor has grown into a diverse global community of independent thinkers who support each other on their journey to personal spiritual freedom. Committed to truth, authenticity, and understanding, I support LGBTQ+ people and groups, BIPOC and women artists, creatives, journalists (and more), and encourage you to do the same.

  • CHURCHED

Before my deconstruction, my life was centered around the church. I was raised in the church. I got my Master’s in Theology. I fell in love and was married in the church. I spent 30 years working as a pastor… until it all came crashing down, one question at a time.

  • UNCHURCHED

With each new day came new doubts. The Bible was the foundation stone upon which my beliefs were built. Once this fundamental belief was eroded, the whole structure of my faith began to crumble. It was devastating.

  • THE IN-BETWEEN

I now live in the in-between. Deconstruction is a journey, not a destination. And I’m still on it! The cartoons and artwork I create are huge parts of how I process the spiritual abuse I once faced and the trauma I’m left with today.

Whether you’re churched, unchurched, or living in the in-between, I want you to know that you are welcome here as you are. I hope that somewhere, in my story or in my art, you can find comfort and support on your journey.
