The Complexities Of Leaving The Church

YES! You CAN leave your church alive and I can help you do it.

I went to church my whole life. I pastored churches for most of it. I finally left the ministry. I finally left the church as a regular member. That was in 2010.

It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. 

We have spiders around our house. Once in a while I'll accidentally walk through one of their webs. It takes a long time to finally get that sticky mess out of my hair and off my clothes.

Same with the church. It took me a long time to break away. It took me a long time to clean off the residue that stuck to me. You know... the toxic relationships, the codependencies, the culture, the guilt, the shame, the fear... and the good stuff too... the friendships, the good feelings, the culture, the commonality, the excitement, the expectations and hopes.

It was a whole network... yes, a web!... of addictions. Some good. Some bad.

It was hard to break away and start a totally new life that looks and feels very different now but I'm free and you can be too. 

That's what inspired this cartoon about leaving the church.
