I WILL MISS YOU ALWAYS

This is a watercolor and ink painting on heavy, high quality Arches watercolor paper.

It measures approximately 6.5"x6.5" with a white border for matting and framing.

I lost a brother in 2016. Then I lost my mom in 2023. There are some who believe that when a red cardinal shows up, it's one of your deceased loved ones dropping by to say hi and let you know they're okay.

Not necessarily believing in that kind of thing, I must say that I am seeing more red cardinals since my loved ones passed. And, oddly and unusually, they hang around for a long time.

This happened just last weekend where this red cardinal landed in a tree like this outside our front window and stayed there for a good hour.

Whatever it means, I nevertheless found it comforting. 

I live in the Canadian north. I'm not in the city, so my skies don't suffer from light pollution as much. Sometimes I go out at night and just look up. Often, I inhale and exhale a huge sigh, astounded by the beauty. If I'm really lucky, I might catch some Northern Lights. 

This experience always makes me feel more grounded, and, strangely, seen and loved.

And I can carry that feeling for a long time. Sometimes until the next night.

All I have to do is look up.

I live in eastern Canada. I'm fascinated by the complex but minimal simplicity of the geography that surrounds me. I endeavor to capture its essence in my work. There is something mystical, contemplative, and spiritual in my art... because there is in the place where I live.
