I was a pastor of real local churches for 30 years, and I know this is a thing.
First of all, we have to humbly admit that the church is many things, including a business.
Most churches need a space to meet, a pastor that's supported to some extent, some staff maybe, supplies, charitable work, etc.
I have nothing against these things. I have no problem with church buildings, staff, salaries, all that stuff. These are all just style.
For me, there are more important things to be concerned about. Like the quality of community.
So that when people don't come and support it financially, it suffers.
It's okay to admit that.
When one pretends their only concern is for the spiritual wellbeing of their members, we know that's probably not true.
