Hey, I'm David.

I’m a pastor turned artist painting, drawing, and thinking about what it takes to be free to be you. If you’re interested in deconstruction, spiritual journeying, freedom of thought, or looking for your authentic self, you’re welcome to join me while I search too.

In case you’re wondering, I’m not actually naked. The idea behind my name, NakedPastor, is to seek to tell the naked truth - no matter how vulnerable it feels. I used to be a pastor but I’ve been creating art and working towards freedom with this community for over 10 years now.

Beautiful, thought-provoking art

I have long admired Naked Pastor's art when I have seen it shared onlne. I purchased this piece to use in worship at the congregation where I serve and it resonated with many of the members that day. His images are simple, but deliver a powerful message of God's love and inclusion of all.

great image

We used the Jesus Eraser image for a bulletin cover for worship. The process of paying and approval was easy and completed within an hour or two after our initial request. Thank you!

DON'T stay between the lines

This cartoon commentary spoke to me when I saw it on my Facebook feed. I used it in a sermon for the start of Advent, illustrating why the established Jewish leadership had issues with Jesus, who was erasing many of the man-made rules they had set up. And I think He's doing it a to broaden our views of the "shoulds/shouldn'ts" now from Christians. It also makes me ask myself-- am I drawing the boxes also, or am I helping Christ remove the divisions the Church is putting on His Vision?

Prompted a sermon on love

The first time I saw this cartoon, it struck a chord in me. I thought about it repeatedly. When the lectionary brought up John 3:16, I used this imagery as an example of people building walls and drawing lines in the ground to keep other people out of God's family. But "God so loved *the world*." This picture sparked a sermon that brought about a lot of conversation, so I decided to purchase it and display it in my office. And now it can continue to spark conversation everytime someone sees it.

Love this cartoon!

Easy to purchase, download and use! This cartoon is out on the internet, but it's important to not abuse wonderful artists who share their gifts. Give them credit and some funding. We used it for a sermon illustration about breaking down divisions in our worship bulletin and on our screen.

A powerful message that is being added to my Jesus gallery wall, which shows different representations of Jesus, in hopes of inspiring my preaching and all who enter my office.

The Best Sermon Illustration!

A picture is worth 1,000 words, right? I was preaching about God’s wide circle of love and our tendency to place conditions on it. “Eraser” was the final sermon slide after which the choir led us in singing “Draw the Circle Wide.” Thanks for helping make it a memorable day!
