My Strength That Is Within Me

The Timber series has always spoken to me! I left 40 years of fundamentalist evangelical Christianity that formed me to believe I should not and could not know God or function in the world apart from codependent relationships with men. As a woman, I was seen as dangerous and taught to not trust myself. When I left, I did not feel brave, I felt terrified and lonely. But through that experience I learned to embrace being alone without being lonely. I found God in ways I never expected and felt empowered to trust my inner voice, and bravely follow it. The first time I say this painting, I was mesmerized! It describes my life. I am now an Episcopal priest, living my best life, loving all the weird parts of myself and empowering others to trust themselves and expect God to show up for them in the places they least expect. I am so grateful for your work David! It so beautifully balances the bravery, strength, and fragility of all of us who are transitioning into new ways of being our best selves. You give our stories a face. You are a gift!
